Since 1998, the ECDC has partnered with ICE to provide Detention Beds for persons detained with Immigration charges. With some 400 beds dedicated to this purpose, the staff of the ECDC work hard to provide a constitutionally sound facility. Since the inception of the National Detention Standards, the ECDC has worked to not only meet the requirements, but to exceed them.

The Sheriffs Office also provides Detainee Transport Services for the Atlanta Field Office.

Through a partnership with the US Department of Homeland Security (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), a select number of Detention Officers are trained and sworn to enforce Immigration Laws. Many requests have been made to “round up” illegal aliens in our community. However, it should be understood that this program is designed to identify persons already in custody for other crimes that are not in the US legally. Enforcement of Immigration Laws “on the street” is left to ICE agents.
