(Etowah County, AL) A Gadsden man has been charged in connection to the death of a 34 year old man in the Tidmore Bend community, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“Shawn Derrick Williams, 37, of Gadsden, has been charged with one count of capital murder,” states Captain Shane Hartley.
Shawn has been a person of interest in the case since Friday. He has been held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a second degree assault charge after assaulting a detention deputy while being held for questioning by investigators.
Shawn’s brother, Jamey Brent Williams, was found dead inside his vehicle in the front yard of his residence at 608 Pope Road, Gadsden.
Forensic lab results from evidence gathered by Sheriff’s Office investigators led to today’s charge.
“I am proud of how hard our investigators worked on this case,” says Sheriff Entrekin. “And thankful to the Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Montgomery for their assistance in helping us solve this case in a timely manner.”
Sheriff Entrekin continues, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams’ family during this difficult time.”
A 911 call was made on June 28, at approximately 9:30 a.m. from Jamey’s employer stating he appeared to have been shot and did not have a pulse. The employer went to Jamey’s residence when he did not show up for work. Witnesses, interviewed by investigators, say they heard gun shots earlier in the day at approximately 6:30 a.m.
When deputies arrived on scene they discovered Jamey had been shot in the head one time and once in the chest.
Shawn is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.
