Boy Rescued After 100 Foot Fall
(Etowah County) A 14 year old boy was rescued during the early morning hours of Thursday after falling from a rock ledge yesterday evening, Wednesday, July 10.
The incident occurred, on Buzzard Rock Road in western Etowah County, when the boy was walking with a a group of people in a wooded area near a rock ledge. He slipped and fell approximately 100 feet down a steep embankment shortly after 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
Multiple agencies worked together to reach the boy and bring him to safety.
"We are thankful for the cooperation among agencies in this successful rescue," says Sheriff Todd Entrekin. "Many residents in the area offered their assistance and provided ATV's for first responders to use. We are grateful for their help."
The boy was alert and speaking to public safety personnel when they reached him. After being lifted to the top of the rock ledge he was transported to a local hospital. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Agencies involved in the rescue include: Etowah County Sheriff's Office, West Etowah and Altoona volunteer fire departments, A-Med Ambulance Service, high angle rescue teams from Oneonta and Boaz fire departments and LifeSaver Helicopter.
