Run, Hide, Fight Training for Citizens
The Etowah County Sheriff's Office is now offering a new safety tool to citizens titled, “Run, Hide, Fight”. The techniques taught could be used in case of an active shooter inside any building or event.
According to the Alabama Department of Homeland Security website when making a decision during an active shooter incident, individuals will generally have three options; “Run: Can you safely escape? Hide: Is there a good place to hide? Fight: Will you take out the shooter?”
“We are pleased to offer this training to Etowah County citizens in an effort to help everyone be prepared in case of an emergency,” says Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
The training will take place Thursday, October 3, 10, 17 or 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
To register for the class please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sheriff Entrekin continues, “This class is just a small portion of our comprehensive plan in helping ensure that our community is safe.”
Since January all sheriffs’ office deputies have participated in specialized active shooter training and outfitted with specific equipment, safety and seminars have been conducted for businesses, schools and churches and more than 400 citizens have completed a firearms safety course.
