Child Endangerment Arrest
(Etowah County, Alabama) An 18 year-old mother has been arrested and charged in connection to child endangerment, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“Katie Renea Halbert, 18, of Attalla, is charged with one count of third degree domestic violence/reckless endangerment, which is a misdemeanor,” says Investigator Ben Greene.
Halbert’s 2 year-old child was found alone, by a family member, wondering outside a residence in the Ivalee community. The child was carrying a suicide note written by his mother. Unable to immediately find Halbert, the family member called 9-1-1.
Halbert was found hours later unharmed in a nearby wooded area.
She is currently being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $1,000 property bond.
Her child is now in care of the Department of Human Resources.
