Receiving Stolen Property Arrests

RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY ARRESTS 

            Johnathan Dawon Davis, 24, Attalla, Jeremy Mark McCurry, 29, Steele and Mary Camp Corrothers, 31, Rainbow City, have all been arrested and charged with a theft related offense.

            “Davis, McCurry and Corrothers are each charged with one count of second degree receiving stolen property, which is a felony,” states Investigator Ben Greene.  “Additionally, McCurry is charged with giving false identification to a law enforcement officer.  He also faces an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.”  

            The suspects allegedly received a stolen .45 caliber Kimber automatic pistol that was taken from an Etowah County Drug Enforcement (DEU) agent’s vehicle on November 23, 2012.  The pistol was issued to the agent by the DEU.

            The weapon was recovered on January 19, 2013 by Etowah County Sheriff’s deputies Craig Tyler and Tyler St. Clair and Rainbow City Officer Camp Yancey.  The officers were conducting a driver’s license check point on Highway 77 at the intersection of Industrial Parkway, Rainbow City.

            When the vehicle was stopped, McCurry gave a false identification to officers at the check point and Davis had current warrants with Rainbow City Police Department, resulting in their arrest.

            Corrothers was taken into custody when the stolen weapon was found while officers were conducting an inventory of the vehicle before it was towed.   

“The deputies and Rainbow City officer are to be highly commended for their discovery of this stolen weapon,” states Sheriff Todd Entrekin.  “This is another great example of what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together.”

            McCurry is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.  Davis and Corrothers were booked into the facility and later released on $2,500 bond each.
