The Etowah County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division consists of 28 sworn deputies. Patrol deputies operate on a 24-hour shift rotation with two, 12-hour shifts.
The Patrol Division answers calls and patrols the 534 square miles that make up Etowah County. There is one Captain and four Sergeants assigned to the division and are responsible for patrol operations.
Two deputies are assigned to serve civil papers on a daily basis.
The Etowah County Patrol Division is responsible for providing Law Enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of Etowah County.
This includes the performance of basic task of protecting life and property, preserving the peace, prevention and investigation of crimes, apprehension of criminals, recovery of stolen property, identification and preservation of evidence, serving warrants and enforcing orders of the court and working traffic.
The Environmental Unit is responsible for the investigation of unlawful dumping cases that include a wide variety of materials including household garbage. A close working relationship with State and local environmental compliance agencies is essential to the protection of our natural resources.
The Motorcycle Unit focuses on traffic enforcement and serves at ceremonial events including VIP motorcades, parades and as traffic escorts at special events.
The motorcycle fleet is comprised of four Harley Davidson police equipped Road Kings.
Each motor deputy is required to attend and successfully pass an extensive two-week motorcycle training program prior to being released on their own.
