Altercation between inmates sends one to the Hospital 

(Etowah County) One inmate in hospital and one facing more charges after altercation between two inmates, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton. 

 

Detention Deputies were alerted to an altercation between inmates in a holding cell in the Etowah County Detention Center just before 2 pm on April 7, 2024. 

 

Special Operations Deputies responded and broke up the altercation. One 33 year old white male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and later transferred to a Birmingham area hospital. 

 

The 33 year old white male was being held on D.U.I charges and was waiting to be extradited to Attalla Police Department for their charges. 

 

A 49 year old white male involved in the incident was arrest a few hours earlier by deputies for giving false information and receiving stolen property 1st for a vehicle he was found in stolen from Virginia.

 

The 49 year old white male is being held in isolation for his role in the altercation. Marshall County Sheriff's Office was contacted, responded and are investigating the case for further criminal charges.

 

At this time neither person involved in the altercation is being named. 

 

Further information will be released as needed by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
