Summer is winding down, and that means it back to school time!

Back to school time is an important event for our entire community. Students are headed back to class. Teachers are implementing new lesson plans for the school year. Administrators are working with budgets, school bus routes, staffing, and school safety concerns. Parents are coordinating work and school schedules, carpools and support for their student's activities and studies. Back to school is a busy time for us all.

Wednesday August 9th is the first day of Etowah County Schools for the 2023/2024 School year.

Leading up to Wednesday, start planning your routes and adjusting your schedules accordingly. Know the school zones and prepare for slowing down and stopping for school buses, protecting our future!
‪Sheriff's Deputies will be present at all Etowah County Schools.

Some advice:
✅Leave early.‬
✅Anticipate delays at school zones.‬
✅Have patience and understanding at school zones.‬

I want to thank all of you who help make our education system an integral, positive force in our community. Our children are counting on us so let's work together to make "back to school" a rewarding, fun, and safe time for all.

Thank you,
Sheriff Jonathon W Horton
