Drug Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) One individual has been arrested with drug charges in Etowah County, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton. 

April Dionne Gilliland (49) of Pell City, Al is charged with four counts of Drug Trafficking (Methamphetamine) and one count of Trafficking Opium.    

On May 13, 2024 Deputy Pace with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that April Dionne Gilliland was driving.  During the course of the stop approximately ½ pound of Methamphetamine, 39 Hydrocodone pills, and a large sum of U.S. currency was recovered.  This arrest followed a two month investigation by the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit involving sales of Methamphetamine in the Gadsden area by April Gilliland.      

April Dionne Gilliland was arrested and is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $220,000.00 cash bond.

This case is still ongoing and there could be more State and Federal charges related to this case.  

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Gadsden Police Department, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Southside Police Department, Rainbow City Police Department, and the FBI North Alabama Criminal Enterprise Task Force participated in the case.
