Etowah County Sheriff's Office Responds to Assault and Theft Incident

Deputies respond to a report of an assault, which also resulted in the theft of a vehicle and a firearm, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

On Saturday December 7, 2024 deputies responded to an assault in progress in the Ivalee Community upon arrival, deputies found the victim, who had sustained serious injuries to his head, face, and neck. the victim informed deputies whom he had been assaulted by. He also reported that the suspect had stolen his vehicle and handgun. Due to the severity of his injuries, Mr. Beets was airlifted to UAB Medical Center for treatment.

A short time later, suspect Justin van Misso, 43yo, from Ashville, al returned to the scene and was taken into custody by deputies. The victim's vehicle and firearm were recovered by investigators with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office at a location in Ashville, Al.

Mr. Misso has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Theft of Property 1st Degree (vehicle)
  • Theft of Property 2nd Degree (firearm)

His bond has been set at $60,000 surety.
