ACE Unit Deputies Make Arrest Following Traffic Stop

in North Gadsden

Etowah County, AL - The Etowah County Sheriff's Office ACE Unit conducted a traffic stop in the county portion of North Gadsden, resulting in the arrest of a male suspect on drug charges, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

During the stop, Deputy Doran deployed K-9 SONYA, who alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. As a result, deputies discovered controlled substances, leading to the arrest of Matthew Banister. Banister was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Etowah County Jail.

The ACE Unit, formerly known as the RAP Unit, is committed to patrolling the rural areas of Etowah County and serving arrest warrants to enhance community safety. The unit consists of four Deputy Specialists, with one assigned to the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Sheriff Jonathon Horton commended the ACE Unit for their dedication and proactive efforts in keeping Etowah County safe.

"Drug enforcement, arrest warrants and rural patrols are a top priority for this unit," said Sheriff Horton. "I appreciate the hard work of our deputies and K-9 SONYA in ensuring these dangerous substances are removed from our community.
