Chemical Endangerment Arrest

 

(Etowah County, Alabama),Two women have been arrested in the last week on chemical endangerment charges, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

 

Chyane Nickole Sebastian, 25, of Altoona, and Ashley Kay Morris, 23, of Gadsden are charged with chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed, which is a felony, Inv. Brandi Fuller said. 

 

Sebastian tested positive throughout her pregnancy, however it was not reported. Once the baby was born, the baby experienced withdrawals due to drug use. Baby Sebastian tested positive for buprenorphine, norhydrocodone, and hydromorphone. The baby has been placed into a safety plan and Sebastian was arrested in Ohio. She was then extradited back to Etowah county.  

 

Ashely Kay Banks Morris is currently around 4 months pregnant. Morris admitted to using marijuana during her pregnancy.  Morris also has charges for possession of marijuana, carrying a pistol without a permit, and a failure to appear on a theft of property charge. 

 

Both women are being held in the Etowah County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond for the chemical endangerment charge. Conditions of both women's charges are to go through a drug treatment program and to be supervised by Etowah County Community Corrections upon release from treatment.
