Shooting Investigation

Monday November 27, 2023

One male deceased after a domestic dispute on Thanksgiving morning, according to Sheriff Jonathan Horton. 

Just after 10am on Thursday deputies responded to a domestic violence incident involving a gunshot victim located in the 2000 block of Jackson Trail. 

Upon arrival they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced deceased after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful. 

The victim is identified as 49 year old Andrew Cornelius Weldon.

The suspect in the shooting is a juvenile, and name is being withheld at this time.

At this time investigators with Etowah County Sheriff's Investigators and Jacksonville State University Center for applied forensics are continuing to work the case. 

The case will be presented to the Etowah County District Attorney's Office for any charges. 

The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released when available.
