DRUG ARREST

Thursday December 21, 2023

(Etowah County, Alabama) One individual has been arrested with drug charges in Etowah County, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton. 

TOMMIE FRANK WRIGHT (32) of GADSDEN, Al is charged with Two (2) counts of Drug Trafficking (Fentanyl), One count (1) of Drug Trafficking (Opium), One count (1) count of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), One (1) count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), One (1) count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Synthetic Marijuana), and One count (1) of Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement. 

On December 18, 2023 Agents with the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Tommie Frank Wright.  The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit had been actively investigating Mr. Wright for approximately two months for Distributing large quantities of Fentanyl throughout the Gadsden area.  Mr. Wright fled in his vehicle and led Agents on a highspeed car chase throughout East Gadsden.  During the course of the chase Mr. Wright was seen throwing contraband from the vehicle.  Agents were finally able to get Mr. Wright stopped.  Agents were able to recover evidence thrown from the vehicle.  Tommie Frank Wright was arrested and is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $357,500.00 cash bond.

     This investigation is still ongoing and there could be more State and Federal charges related to this case.     

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Gadsden Police Department, Rainbow City Police Department, Southside Police Department, the FBI North Alabama Criminal Enterprise Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force participated in the case.
